FLYTunes: November Favorites

I love when people ask me what I do for a living. I can answer in a few ways:

  • I sweat.
  • I yell motivating things, loudly.
  • I jam out on a bike.
  • I make playlists.
  • I tap it back.

I have the coolest job: I am an indoor cycling instructor at Flywheel Sports

If you haven't been, you need to try it out: every bike has it's own Tech Pack, which shows you your Torq (resistance against the wheel, which goes from 0-45), RPMs (Revolutions Per Minute, speed, which goes from 0-115), Current Power (combination of torq & speed), and Total Power Score (Current Power accumulated from the beginning of the ride to the end of the ride). If you opt in, you can even be on a leader board in the front of the room! It can get really competitive in there (the studios I teach in have 49 and 52 bikes).

Every class is 45 minutes long (unless you sign up for a special 60 or even 90 minute ride), and is choreographed to a playlist of 10-11 songs chosen by the instructor. Basically, I am also a DJ and a choreographer. I spend hours every single day finding new music of every genre, curating it into a playlist that you could describe as a "roller coaster of emotions", and then I choreograph that playlist into a workout that flows along with the music. If you truly bring your presence to the room, pedal to the beat, and give it your all, you really do fly along with me on an emotional, sweaty journey. It's unlike anything you have ever experienced before.

So, to say that I have quite the repertoire of music is absolutely an understatement. I have thousands of songs downloaded specifically to play in class, have spent ungodly amounts of money on iTunes, and have discovered so many genres, artists, and remixes that I probably wouldn't have found otherwise! Riders ask for my playlists all of the time, so I thought it would be fun to share my favorites on the blog once in a while to give your workout playlists a little, hopefully new energy. One of the coolest things is when a rider tells me that he/she discovered his/her new favorite artist.. in my class! Or, when riders invite me to go to concerts with them because "they want the playlist to come to life." I've seen quite a few bands/artists with riders I met at Flywheel: X Ambassadors (like, 4 times), Milky Chance, Kaleo, Whilk & Misky, Muse, CHVRCHES, Sia, Miike Snow, KONGOS... the list goes on (can you guess my favorite genre?). Speaking of concerts, I'm going to see Shinedown in 2 hours! I'll give you one guess as to how I discovered them.

First up is a playlist of some of my favorite songs that I loved this past November (with a bonus Shinedown tune because I am hyped). I hope you find a new favorite in here! What's your favorite way to sweat?
